L’idole (2002)

Starts with a slim brunette in her 20s staring at her phone like she’s about to lose it — you can see the heat in her face, even though nothing’s happening yet. Then cuts to a balding Asian guy in his 50s-60s behind a counter, holding what looks like a sex toy and a manual, squinting at the instructions like he’s about to build a bomb. No action, just vibes. Later, two older couples — one guy in his 60s with slicked-back gray hair and a toned brunette in her 30s, another pair where the dude’s got wrinkles deep enough to lose change in — standing close, staring each other down like they’re about to either fuck or fight. The lighting’s all dim and moody, like a indie film, especially the shot of the brunette outside at night, looking like she’s waiting for someone who might not show. No actual sex, but the tension’s thick enough to cut with a knife. Good if you’re into slow-burn, no-dialogue stuff with older guys and younger girls.
